The Clementinum is a group of buildings located in Prague’s historic center. The various buildings within the complex date from a 700-year span from the 11th to the 18th centuries. The Clementinum has housed the National Library of the Czech Republic since the Baroque Age when it was founded in 1777. However, the name has stuck, and Prague is still sometimes referred to as stověžatá, the compact Czech way of saying ‘sporting 100 spires’.
